Questions
The things people ask first.
- Is Stewardory a will?
- No. Stewardory records and organises your affairs so nothing is lost; it does not create a legally valid will. For that, see a solicitor — Stewardory keeps the picture your solicitor and family will both need.
- Can Stewardory see my documents?
- Your documents are encrypted on your own device before they are uploaded, and we store only the encrypted result. We hold no key that can open them — so we cannot read them, and could not hand them to anyone else.
- Then how does my family ever get in?
- Your vault key is split into shares held by people you choose, with a threshold (for example, two of three) required to rebuild it. After a verified event, those shares are reassembled in your trusted people's own browsers — never on our servers.
- What if I lose my password?
- Recovery runs through a printed recovery card and your trusted contacts' shares. If every share and the card are lost, encrypted documents cannot be recovered — that is the direct cost of us holding no master key.
- How is death or incapacity verified?
- Nothing releases on a timer. A long silence is noticed through regular check-ins, then your named verifiers are asked to confirm, with a cooling-off period during which you can stop the whole thing. No single person can release everything alone.
- Can I change access, export, or leave?
- Yes. You can change or remove anyone's access at any time, and export everything as a single, self-describing file you can open without us — so your family keeps a usable copy no matter what.
